This wedding at Oakdale is special to me for many reasons. Growing up, Scarlet and I played soccer together in middle school. In high school, we had a ceramics class together where we became close friends. When Scarlet went off to JMU, I visited her a couple of times where I was introduced to her roommate Brittany which you might recognize from previous blog posts! Years and years ago Scarlet, Grace, Elise, and I had a little “photoshoot” out in fields near our neighborhood and downtown at an art park WAYYY before I even knew I wanted to be a photographer. This weekend I was reconnected with Grace, Elise, and Scarlet’s friends from high school and college. It was special walking into the bridal suite knowing everyone’s names and getting to see familiar faces from middle school and high school.

During I think what was Scarlet’s first winter break we met up at Bodo’s to catch up on life and I remember her telling me about this guy she’d been seeing named Christian who went to college close to JMU. Then I went off to college and life got busy. We lost touch until she was engaged and I reached out to congratulate her. It’s been such a blessing to have rekindled our friendship over the last year and a half. While I haven’t spent much time with Christian outside of their engagement session and wedding, I know that my girl is in the best of hands.

Scarlet’s been super busy teaching her first year. Christian would message me periodically trying to figure out ways to take off a load of wedding planning stress so that she could focus on handling teaching during a pandemic. This is a huge testimony to Christian’s character and their relationship. Christian is such a hardworking and kind person. I couldn’t be happier for the two of them!

I hope you enjoy this beautiful wedding at Oakdale. Oakdale is a newer venue in Richmond and I’m in love!!! The sun is placed perfectly during ceremony time so all of the photos have beautiful golden light. You’ll see that the reception space is this beautiful white and open space. You can’t take a bad photo here!
