For over a year I’ve been eyeing Pharsalia, hoping that one of my couples would be excited to venture out to Tryo, VA. I love photographing weddings and engagement sessions in Virginia because of the scenic mountains and vineyards. Pharsalia gives you the best of BOTH worlds! It’s a scenic wedding venue in the Blue Ridge Mountains with both views of a vineyard and iconic mountain views!

On the way to Pharsalia, I started to see dark clouds forming. I immediately texted Emily to not worry- the radar looked clear and I reassured her that we had PLENTY of buffer time. During summer sessions I make sure to buffer an hour or more of wiggle room in case of surprise storms.

Side note: this is also why doing a first look during summer weddings is SO IMPORTANT. You never know when afternoon thunderstorms are going to happen! I’d be devastated if one of my couples’ only portrait time was ruined by a storm.

We ended sitting in our cars for over an hour waiting for the storm to pass. I kept getting out of my car when the rain looked like it was slowing down to peek around to see if I spotted any blue sky in the distance. Thank GOODNESS I eventually started to spot some sunlight!

After a thunderstorm the sky and light are typically extra glowy, and boy it did NOT disappoint! You’re going to scroll through this blog post and be like “whaatttt it rained?!”

 

Emily and Christian, I need to thank you a million times. You made my dreams come true!!! I am over the moon excited to have ventured out to Pharsalia, and even more excited it was with a light-hearted fun couple like you! The only thing that I’m sad about is that time flew by! I wish we could have stayed and chatted more!!! Emily, I can’t believe we went to the same small college and never met before! I’m SUPER glad our paths are crossing now and I can’t wait to be in touch over the next year leading up to your wedding at The Barn at Timber Creek! I’m ready for some more magical moments with you two!

Can it get any better than this?! Nothing beats Pharsalia’s view. Can you imagine having your wedding with this Blue Ridge Mountain view?!

Here I was telling Christian to whisper into Emily’s ear his favorite qualities about her (this makes for great candid engagement photos). I’m not sure what he said but you sure can tell how perfect they are for each other!!

This looks like it’s straight out of some magazine. Simply breathtaking.
